A good analysis of the Pope’s informal airplane news conferences can be found here by Fr. Dwight Longenecker. Fr. Dwight is usually spot on when it comes to separating faith from spin.
And it looks the Pope is a bit distressed that his comments on the family were taken out of context by much of the media. They thought he was advocating small families when really he was advocating responsible parenting as I discussed in my last post.
Are the return trips just a good opportunity for press conferences? Is that why it seems like so many statements come from the air? π

Hi Jared
Yes I suspect it’s partly just a good use of time. Press conferences have traditionally happened on papal planes but they aren’t as unscripted as Pope Francis’ are. π
